Nobody Owes You Anything!
In sales you need good products and good training. You don’t need a degree to be successful and that’s what makes a career in sales a life-changing one for those who seriously pursue it. Once you master the art of sales, you will never be unemployed again in the United States of America. You can bank on it!
The first and perhaps the most important element to being successful at sales and successful in life is to adopt the right mindset. If you approach life with the belief that- Nobody Owes You Anything – you will be on your way to true independence and freedom. When you shed the notion that your prospects somehow “owe” you something, you become completely self-sufficient and self-reliant.
Your job as a sale professional is to determine what the prospect needs and then to demonstrate how your product or service can fulfill that need. If you can do this and the customer buys, you have been successful. If you don’t make the sale, the prospect doesn’t owe you anything. They are in no way obligated to you, just because you worked hard to make your presentation.
Many times, I have worked very hard and exhausted great resources on a presentation and have walked away with nothing. I never allow myself to feel angry or mad. Clearly there was something I did or didn’t do that kept them from doing business with me and I accept that. It’s highly likely that there were other factors at play, outside of my power, that led them refuse. Work on the things that you can control and leave the rest behind. Focus on the things that are in your power to change or improve.
The United States of America was founded on the idea of independence. Just look to history and you will find countless examples of great human beings doing what was right, for no other reason than to do what was right. They did not subscribe to the idea that they were owed something or entitled to anything.
Sometimes hard work is going to pay-off. In fact, MOST times hard work is going to pay-off and that is what is going to give you the life style you want and the security you need. However, when a prospect says “no”, being in the right mindset allows you to truly understand and believe that it will be okay, either way. You are not going to be defined by one sale. You are going to be defined by your entire body of work.
Write this down on an index card and repeat it throughout the day. Stop wasting time feeling entitled to anything and go get it for yourself!
Nobody Owes Me Anything! I have no parachutes. I prepare and therefore I am prepared and ready for anything I encounter. I am self-sufficient. I will be successful in sales, business, and life because I understand that Nobody Owes Me Anything!
